Let them worship the Lord of this House,

And His word: فَلْيَعْبُدُوا رَبَّ هَذَا الْبَيْتِ (let them worship the Lord of this House) — he says: let them remain in their place of residence and dwelling in Mecca, and let them worship the Lord of this House. By "the House" he means the Kaʿba.
As Yaʿqūb ibn Ibrāhīm related to me, saying: Hushaym related to us, saying: Mughīra informed us, on the authority of Ibrāhīm, that ʿUmar ibn al-Khaṭṭāb — may Allah be pleased with him — performed the maghrib prayer in Mecca and recited therein لِإِيلَافِ قُرَيْشٍ. When he reached His word فَلْيَعْبُدُوا رَبَّ هَذَا الْبَيْتِ, he pointed with his hand toward the House.
ʿAmr ibn ʿAlī related to us, saying: ʿĀmir ibn Ibrāhīm al-Aṣbahānī related to us, saying: Khaṭṭāb ibn Jaʿfar ibn Abī al-Mughīra related to us, saying: my father related to me, on the authority of Saʿīd ibn Jubayr, on the authority of Ibn ʿAbbās, concerning His word فَلْيَعْبُدُوا رَبَّ هَذَا الْبَيْتِ: he said: "the Kaʿba."
Some said: they were commanded to embrace the worship of the Lord of Mecca, just as they embraced the two journeys.

ʿAmr ibn ʿAbd al-Ḥamīd al-Āmulī related to us, saying: Marwān related to us, on the authority of ʿĀṣim al-Aḥwal, on the authority of ʿIkrima, on the authority of Ibn ʿAbbās, concerning the word of Allah لِإِيلَافِ قُرَيْشٍ: he said: "They were commanded to embrace the worship of the Lord of this House, just as they embraced the winter journey and the summer journey."
