Tafseer of The Chargers · Al-Aadiyaat · 100:9
But does he not know that when the contents of the graves are scattered
Important: The Arabic source text is always authoritative. This translation is a study aid and has not been verified by scholars — do not use it as a basis for religious proof or for deriving rulings (ahkam). When in doubt, always consult the Arabic text and a qualified scholar.
His statement: أَفَلا يَعْلَمُ إِذَا بُعْثِرَ مَا فِي الْقُبُورِ (Does he then not know, when what is in the graves is scattered forth?)
He says: Does this man — whose character is as described — then not know, when what is in the graves is scattered forth, and when the dead who lie therein are brought out and searched through?
It is mentioned that in the muṣḥaf of ʿAbdullāh it reads: "idhā buḥitha mā fī l-qubūr" (when what is in the graves is searched through). And thus did the people of interpretation (ahl al-taʾwīl) explain it as well.
*Mention of those who said that:*
ʿAlī related to me, he said: Abū Ṣāliḥ related to us, he said: Muʿāwiya related to me, on the authority of ʿAlī, on the authority of Ibn ʿAbbās, concerning his statement: بُعْثِرَ مَا فِي الْقُبُورِ — (it means:) searched through. And the Arabs have two dialectal variants for "buʿthira": one says "baʿthara" and "baḥthara", and both have the same meaning.
