His statement: وَرَفَعْنَا لَكَ ذِكْرَكَ ("And We have raised high your renown for you") means: and We have raised high your renown for you, so that I am not mentioned without you being mentioned together with Me; and that is the saying: there is no god but Allah, Muḥammad is the Messenger of Allah.
And in accordance with what we have said about this, the exegetes have spoken.
* Mention of who said that:
Abū Kurayb and ʿAmr ibn Mālik related to us, both of them saying: Sufyān ibn ʿUyayna related to us, on the authority of Ibn Abī Najīḥ, on the authority of Mujāhid, concerning وَرَفَعْنَا لَكَ ذِكْرَكَ , he said: I am not mentioned without you being mentioned together with Me: I bear witness that there is no god but Allah, and I bear witness that Muḥammad is the Messenger of Allah.
Ibn ʿAbd al-Aʿlā related to us, he said: Ibn Thawr related to us, on the authority of Maʿmar, on the authority of Qatāda, concerning His statement وَرَفَعْنَا لَكَ ذِكْرَكَ : the Prophet ﷺ said: "Begin with servitude (al-ʿubūda) and let the messengership follow second." I said to Maʿmar, he said: one says: I bear witness that there is no god but Allah and that Muḥammad is His servant — that is the servitude; and His messenger, that is that you say: His servant and His messenger.
Bishr related to us, he said: Yazīd related to us, he said: Saʿīd related to us, on the authority of Qatāda, concerning وَرَفَعْنَا لَكَ ذِكْرَكَ : Allah raised high his renown in this worldly life and in the Hereafter, so that there is no preacher, nor anyone who makes the profession of faith, nor anyone who performs the prayer, but he proclaims it: I bear witness that there is no god but Allah, and I bear witness that Muḥammad is the Messenger of Allah.
Yūnus related to me, he said: Ibn Wahb informed us, he said: ʿAmr ibn al-Ḥārith informed us, on the authority of Darrāj, on the authority of Abū al-Haytham, on the authority of Abū Saʿīd al-Khudrī, on the authority of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, that he said: "Jibrīl came to me and said: verily, my Lord and your Lord says: How have I raised high your renown for you? He said: Allah knows best. He said: when I am mentioned, you are mentioned together with Me."
