The explanation of the saying of the Exalted: فَأَمَّا الْيَتِيمَ فَلا تَقْهَرْ ("As for the orphan, do not oppress him") (93:9).
The Exalted, whose remembrance is exalted, says to His Prophet Muḥammad ﷺ: فَأَمَّا الْيَتِيمَ ("As for the orphan"), O Muḥammad, فَلا تَقْهَرْ ("do not oppress him"). He says: do not treat him unjustly, so that you deprive him of his right by regarding him as weak.
As Bishr related to us, saying: Yazīd related to us, saying: Saʿīd related to us, on the authority of Qatāda: فَأَمَّا الْيَتِيمَ فَلا تَقْهَرْ ("As for the orphan, do not oppress him"), that is to say: do not treat him unjustly.
Ibn Ḥumayd related to us, saying: Mihrān related to us, on the authority of Sufyān, on the authority of Manṣūr, on the authority of Mujāhid: فَأَمَّا الْيَتِيمَ فَلا تَقْهَرْ ("As for the orphan, do not oppress him"), he said: that you despise him and regard him as insignificant. And it has been mentioned that in the muṣḥaf (codex) of ʿAbd Allāh (Ibn Masʿūd) it reads فَلا تَكْهَرْ ("do not rebuke him harshly").
