Tafseer of The City · Al-Balad · 90:20
Over them will be fire closed in.

His word: عَلَيْهِمْ نَارٌ مُؤْصَدَةٌ ("Over them is a closed-in Fire"). He — the Exalted, He whose praise is mentioned — says: over them, on the Day of Resurrection, is the Fire of Hell (jahannam), shut tightly closed over them. Concerning this one says: "awṣadtu" and "āṣadtu" (I have closed).
And in agreement with what we have said about this, the exegetes (ahl al-taʾwīl) spoke.
* Mention of who said that:
ʿAlī related to me, saying: Abū Ṣāliḥ related to us, saying: Muʿāwiya related to me, on the authority of ʿAlī, on the authority of Ibn ʿAbbās, concerning His word: عَلَيْهِمْ نَارٌ مُؤْصَدَةٌ , he said: tightly closed.
Muḥammad ibn Saʿd related to me, saying: My father related to me, saying: My uncle related to me, saying: My father related to me, on the authority of his father, on the authority of Ibn ʿAbbās: عَلَيْهِمْ نَارٌ مُؤْصَدَةٌ , he said: tightly closed.
Bishr related to us, saying: Yazīd related to us, saying: Saʿīd related to us, on the authority of Qatāda, concerning His word: عَلَيْهِمْ نَارٌ مُؤْصَدَةٌ : that is, tightly closed; Allah has closed it tightly over them, so that there is no light in it and no relief, and no escape from it for all eternity.
It was related to me, on the authority of al-Ḥusayn, who said: I heard Abū Muʿādh say: ʿUbayd related to us, saying: I heard al-Ḍaḥḥāk say concerning His word: مُؤْصَدَةٌ : closed over them.
Here ends the exegesis of Surah "Lā uqsimu bi-hādhā l-balad" (Surah Al-Balad).
