And His saying: فَأَمَّا الإنْسَانُ إِذَا مَا ابْتَلاهُ رَبُّهُ ("As for man, when his Lord tries him"). The Exalted, whose mention is exalted, says: As for man, when his Lord tests him with favors and wealth, فأكْرَمَهُ ("and honors him") with possessions and bestows His bounty upon him, وَنَعَّمَهُ ("and grants him ease") with that by which He provided for him abundantly out of His favor, فَيَقُولُ رَبِّي أَكْرَمَنِ ("then he says: my Lord has honored me") — then he rejoices over that and is gladdened by it, and he says: my Lord has honored me with this honor.
As Bishr related to us, saying: Yazīd related to us, saying: Saʿīd related to us, on the authority of Qatāda, concerning His saying: فَأَمَّا الإنْسَانُ إِذَا مَا ابْتَلاهُ رَبُّهُ فَأَكْرَمَهُ وَنَعَّمَهُ فَيَقُولُ رَبِّي أَكْرَمَنِ ("As for man, when his Lord tries him and honors him and grants him ease, then he says: my Lord has honored me") — and for that he has good ground.
