His statement: فِيهَا سُرُرٌ مَرْفُوعَةٌ ("therein are couches raised high") — and "surur" is the plural of "sarīr" (couch); "raised high" so that the believer, when he sits upon it, may behold all the bounties and the dominion that his Lord has allotted to him therein, and his gaze may encompass all of that.
And it has been said: by the statement "raised high" is meant: closely interwoven (mawḍūna).
* Mention of who said that:
Muḥammad ibn Saʿd related to me, saying: my father related to me, saying: my uncle related to me, saying: my father related to me, on the authority of his father, on the authority of Ibn ʿAbbās: فِيهَا سُرُرٌ مَرْفُوعَةٌ ("therein are couches raised high") means: interwoven, as in His statement: "couches arranged in rows", one above the other.
