His statement: وَالَّذِي أَخْرَجَ الْمَرْعَى ("and who brought forth the pasture"). He says: and who brought forth from the earth the pasture for the livestock, consisting of the various kinds of crops and the kinds of herbs.
And in agreement with what we have said about this, the scholars of interpretation (ahl al-taʾwīl) have spoken.
* Mention of who said that:
Yaʿqūb ibn Mukram related to me, saying: al-Ḥafarī related to us, saying: Sufyān related to us, on the authority of Manṣūr, on the authority of Abū Razīn, concerning أَخْرَجَ الْمَرْعَى ("brought forth the pasture"), he said: the crops.
Bishr related to us, saying: Yazīd related to us, saying: Saʿīd related to us, on the authority of Qatāda, concerning His statement: وَالَّذِي أَخْرَجَ الْمَرْعَى ... ("and who brought forth the pasture …"), the verse: it is what sprouts, as you see it, in various colors — yellow, red, and white.
