And when the earth has been extended

His statement: وَإِذَا الأرْضُ مُدَّتْ ("and when the earth is spread out"). He, exalted is His mention, says: and when the earth is leveled flat, so that it is enlarged in its expanse.
As is shown by what Ibn ʿAbd al-Aʿlā related to us, saying: Ibn Thawr related to us, on the authority of Maʿmar, on the authority of al-Zuhrī, on the authority of ʿAlī ibn Ḥusayn, that the Prophet ﷺ said: "When the Day of Resurrection comes, Allah will spread out the earth until there is for no one of mankind more than the place of his two feet. Then I will be the first to be called, while Jibrīl stands on the right of the All-Merciful (al-Raḥmān) — and by Allah, he had not seen Him before that moment. Then I will say: 'O my Lord, this one (Jibrīl) has informed me that You sent him to me.' Then He will say: 'He has spoken the truth.' Then I will intercede and say: 'O my Lord, Your servants have served You in the far corners of the earth.'" — he (the narrator) said: — "And that is the praiseworthy station (al-maqām al-maḥmūd)."
Muḥammad ibn ʿAmr related to me, saying: Abū ʿĀṣim related to us, saying: ʿĪsā related to us; and al-Ḥārith related to me, saying: al-Ḥasan related to us, saying: Warqāʾ related to us — both of them — on the authority of Ibn Abī Najīḥ, on the authority of Mujāhid, concerning His statement: مُدَّتْ ("is spread out"), he said: on the Day of Resurrection.
