Indeed, those who committed crimes used to laugh at those who believed.

His statement: إِنَّ الَّذِينَ أَجْرَمُوا كَانُوا مِنَ الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا يَضْحَكُونَ ("Verily, those who committed crimes used to laugh at those who believed"). The Exalted, whose praise is exalted, says: verily, those who acquired sins and in the worldly life were disbelievers in Allah used therein, at those who acknowledged the oneness of Allah and believed in Him, to يضحكون ("laugh"), by way of mockery of them.
And in accordance with what we have said concerning this, the people of interpretation (ahl al-taʾwīl) have spoken.

Bishr related to us, saying: Yazīd related to us, saying: Saʿīd related to us, on the authority of Qatāda, concerning his statement: إِنَّ الَّذِينَ أَجْرَمُوا كَانُوا مِنَ الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا يَضْحَكُونَ ("Verily, those who committed crimes used to laugh at those who believed") in the worldly life. They said: by Allah, these people are truly liars and they have nothing in hand, by way of mockery of them.
