When Our verses are recited to him, he says, "Legends of the former peoples."

( إِذَا تُتْلَى عَلَيْهِ آيَاتُنَا ) (When Our signs are recited to him). He, exalted is His mention, says: when there are recited to him Our proofs and Our indications which We have set forth in Our Book that We have sent down to the Prophet ﷺ, ( قَالَ أَسَاطِيرُ الأوَّلِينَ ) (he says: tales of the ancients). He says: he said: this is what the ancients recorded and wrote down, of stories and reports.
