And by the dawn when it breathes

His statement: وَالصُّبْحِ إِذَا تَنَفَّسَ ("And by the morning when it breathes"). He says: and by the light of day when it draws near and becomes visible.
And along the lines of what we have said concerning this, the people of interpretation (ahl al-taʾwīl) have spoken.

Abū Kurayb related to us, saying: Ibn Yamān related to us, on the authority of Ashʿath, on the authority of Jaʿfar, on the authority of Saʿīd, concerning his statement: وَالصُّبْحِ إِذَا تَنَفَّسَ ("And by the morning when it breathes"), he said: when it dawns.
Bishr related to us, saying: Yazīd related to us, saying: Saʿīd related to us, on the authority of Qatāda, concerning وَالصُّبْحِ إِذَا تَنَفَّسَ ("And by the morning when it breathes"): when it lights up and draws near.
