As for he who thinks himself without need,

The explanation of His statement, exalted is His remembrance: As for him who deems himself self-sufficient (5)
Allah, exalted is His remembrance, says to His Prophet Muḥammad ﷺ: As for him who deems himself independent through his wealth, to him you turn your attention, in the hope that he will convert to Islam.
Ibn Ḥumayd related to us, saying: Mihrān related to us, on the authority of Sufyān: As for him who deems himself self-sufficient * to him you turn your attention. He said: It was revealed concerning al-ʿAbbās.
Muḥammad ibn ʿAmr related to me, saying: Abū ʿĀṣim related to us, saying: ʿĪsā related to us; and al-Ḥārith related to me, al-Ḥasan related to us, saying: Warqāʾ related to us — both on the authority of Ibn Abī Najīḥ, on the authority of Mujāhid, concerning His statement: As for him who deems himself self-sufficient. He said: They were ʿUtba ibn Rabīʿa and Shayba ibn Rabīʿa.
