لكل امرئ ("For every man") means: of the man and his brother and his mother and his father and the rest of those mentioned in this verse, يَوْمَئِذٍ ("on that Day") means: on the Day of Resurrection, when the deafening cry comes on the Day of Resurrection, شَأْنٌ يُغْنِيهِ ("a concern that fully preoccupies him") means: an affair that occupies him and distracts him from the affair of another.

As Bishr related to us, he said: Yazīd related to us, he said: Saʿīd related to us, on the authority of Qatāda, concerning His words: لِكُلِّ امْرِئٍ مِنْهُمْ يَوْمَئِذٍ شَأْنٌ يُغْنِيهِ ("For every man among them, on that Day, there is a concern that fully preoccupies him"): every man is overwhelmed by that which distracts him from people.

Abū ʿUmāra al-Marwazī al-Ḥusayn ibn Ḥurayth related to us, he said: al-Faḍl ibn Mūsā related to us, on the authority of ʿĀʾidh ibn Shurayḥ, on the authority of Anas, he said: ʿĀʾisha asked the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, she said: "O Messenger of Allah, may my father and my mother be ransom for you, I wish to ask you about a matter, so tell me about it." He said: "If I have knowledge of it." She said: "O Prophet of Allah, how will the men be gathered?" He said: "Barefoot and naked." Then she waited a while and said: "O Prophet of Allah, how will the women be gathered?" He said: "Likewise, barefoot and naked." She said: "What a disgrace, on the Day of Resurrection!" He said: "And do you ask me about that? There has indeed been sent down to me a verse by which it will not concern you whether you have clothing on or not." She said: "Which verse is that, O Prophet of Allah?" He said: لِكُلِّ امْرِئٍ مِنْهُمْ يَوْمَئِذٍ شَأْنٌ يُغْنِيهِ ("For every man among them, on that Day, there is a concern that fully preoccupies him").

Yūnus related to me, he said: Ibn Wahb informed us, he said: Ibn Zayd said concerning the word of Allah: لِكُلِّ امْرِئٍ مِنْهُمْ يَوْمَئِذٍ شَأْنٌ يُغْنِيهِ ("For every man among them, on that Day, there is a concern that fully preoccupies him"), he said: a concern that has distracted him from his companion.
