And his wife and his children,

( وَصَاحِبَتِهِ ) — "and from his companion," that is to say: his wife who was his wife in this worldly life (al-dunyā); ( وَبَنِيهِ ) — "and from his sons," out of fear that they would demand from him the obligations and wrongs that existed between him and them.
And some of them said: The meaning of His words ( يَفِرُّ الْمَرْءُ مِنْ أَخِيهِ ) ("the man flees from his brother") is: he flees away from his brother so that the latter would not see him, nor see what has befallen him.
