And His word: ( وَمَا يُدْرِيكَ لَعَلَّهُ يَزَّكَّى ) ("And what makes you know, perhaps that he would purify himself") — He, exalted is His mention, says to His Prophet Muḥammad, ṣalla Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam: And what makes you know, O Muḥammad, perhaps that this blind man, from whose face you turned away frowning, would purify himself — He says: perhaps that he would cleanse himself of his sins.

And Ibn Zayd used to say concerning this what Yūnus related to me, saying: Ibn Wahb informed us, saying: Ibn Zayd said, concerning His word: ( لَعَلَّهُ يَزَّكَّى ) ("perhaps that he would purify himself"): that he would surrender himself to Islam.
