فَأَمَّا مَن طَغَىٰ

So as for he who transgressed

    Consideration of the explanation of His words, the Exalted: فَأَمَّا مَنْ طَغَى ("As for him who transgresses") (37).

    He, exalted is His mention, says: As for him who rebels against his Lord, disobeys Him, and arrogantly exalts himself above worshipping Him.

    Muḥammad ibn ʿAmr related to me, saying: Abū ʿĀṣim related to us, saying: ʿĪsā related to us; and al-Ḥārith related to me, saying: al-Ḥasan related to us, saying: Warqāʾ related to us — both on the authority of Ibn Abī Najīḥ, on the authority of Mujāhid — concerning His word: ( طَغَى ) ("transgressed"), he said: that means: he was disobedient.

    القول في تأويل قوله تعالى : فَأَمَّا مَنْ طَغَى (37) يقول تعالى ذكره: فأما من عتا على ربه، وعصاه واستكبر عن عبادته. حدثني محمد بن عمرو، قال: ثنا أبو عاصم، قال: ثنا عيسى، وحدثني الحارث، قال: ثنا الحسن، قال: ثنا ورقاء، جميعا عن ابن أبي نجيح، عن مجاهد، قوله: ( طَغَى ) قال: عصى.
