Then he turned his back, striving.

And His statement: (ثُمَّ أَدْبَرَ يَسْعَى) He says: then he turned away, averting himself from that to which Mūsā had called him — namely obedience to his Lord, fear of Him, and professing His oneness. (يَسْعَى) He says: he labored in disobedience to Allah and in that which brought down His wrath upon him.
And concerning what we have said about this, the people of interpretation spoke to the same effect.
Mention of those who said that:
Muḥammad ibn ʿAmr related to me, saying: Abū ʿĀṣim related to us, saying: ʿĪsā related to us; and al-Ḥārith related to me, saying: al-Ḥasan related to us, saying: Warqāʾ related to us — all of them on the authority of Ibn Abī Najīḥ, on the authority of Mujāhid, concerning His statement: (ثُمَّ أَدْبَرَ يَسْعَى) he said: he labored at corruption.
