His statement: wujūhun yawmaʾidhin nāḍiratun (faces on that Day will be radiant). The Exalted, glorified is His mention, says: faces on that Day — that is, on the Day of Resurrection — will be radiant. He says: bright and beautiful through bliss. One says of this: naḍura wajhu fulān (the face of so-and-so became radiant), when it becomes bright through favor; and naḍḍara Allāhu wajhahu (Allah made his face radiant), when He thus beautifies it.

The exegetes differed about this. Some said what we have said about it.

    * Mention of who said that:

Muḥammad ibn Ismāʿīl al-Bukhārī related to me, saying: Ādam related to us, saying: al-Mubārak related to us, on the authority of al-Ḥasan: wujūhun yawmaʾidhin nāḍiratun he said: bright.

Abū Kurayb related to us, saying: Wakīʿ related to us, on the authority of Sufyān, on the authority of Manṣūr, on the authority of Mujāhid: wujūhun yawmaʾidhin nāḍiratun he said: the radiance (nuḍra) of the faces is their beauty.

Ibn Ḥumayd related to us, saying: Mihrān related to us, on the authority of Sufyān, on the authority of Manṣūr, on the authority of Mujāhid, the same.

Yūnus related to me, saying: Ibn Wahb informed us, saying: Ibn Zayd said concerning His statement: wujūhun yawmaʾidhin nāḍiratun he said: al-nāḍira: the prosperous, dwelling in bliss.

Ibn Bashshār related to us, saying: ʿAbd al-Raḥmān related to us, saying: Sufyān related to us, on the authority of Manṣūr, on the authority of Mujāhid: wujūhun yawmaʾidhin nāḍiratun he said: the beautiful faces.

Ibn Ḥumayd related to us, saying: Jarīr related to us, on the authority of Manṣūr, on the authority of Mujāhid: wujūhun yawmaʾidhin nāḍiratun he said: from joy, bliss, and contentment.

Others said: rather, the meaning of this is that they are joyful.

    * Mention of who said that:

Muḥammad ibn ʿAmr related to me, saying: Abū ʿĀṣim related to us, saying: ʿĪsā related to us; and al-Ḥārith related to me, saying: al-Ḥasan related to us, saying: Warqāʾ related to us — both on the authority of Ibn Abī Najīḥ, on the authority of Mujāhid, concerning His statement: wujūhun yawmaʾidhin nāḍiratun he said: joyful, ilā rabbihā nāẓiratun (looking toward her Lord).

The exegetes differed over the interpretation of this. Some said: the meaning of this is that it looks toward its Lord.
