Tafseer of The Cloaked One · Al-Muddaththir · 74:45
And we used to enter into vain discourse with those who engaged [in it],

وَكُنَّا نَخُوضُ مَعَ الْخَائِضِينَ ("and we used to plunge into vain talk with those who plunged therein") — He says: and we used to immerse ourselves in falsehood and in that which Allah abhors, together with whoever immersed himself therein.
As Bishr related to us, he said: Yazīd related to us, he said: Saʿīd related to us, on the authority of Qatāda, [concerning] وَكُنَّا نَخُوضُ مَعَ الْخَائِضِينَ , he said: whenever a strayer went astray, [another] strayed along with him.
Ibn ʿAbd al-Aʿlā related to us, he said: Ibn Thawr related to us, on the authority of Maʿmar, on the authority of Qatāda, [concerning] his statement: وَكُنَّا نَخُوضُ مَعَ الْخَائِضِينَ , he said: they say: whenever a strayer went astray, we strayed along with him.
