Tafseer of The Cloaked One · Al-Muddaththir · 74:35
Indeed, the Fire is of the greatest [afflictions]

innahā la-iḥdā al-kubar ("Verily, it is one of the very greatest [calamities]"). He, exalted is His mention, says: verily, Hell (jahannam) is one of the very greatest, that is to say: the tremendous matters.
And in accordance with what we have said about this, the people of interpretation (ahl al-taʾwīl) have spoken.
* Mention of those who said that:
Muḥammad ibn ʿAmr related to me, saying: Abū ʿĀṣim related to us, saying: ʿĪsā related to me; and al-Ḥārith related to me, saying: al-Ḥasan related to us, saying: Warqāʾ related to us — both on the authority of Ibn Abī Najīḥ, on the authority of Mujāhid: innahā la-iḥdā al-kubar , he means: Hell (jahannam).
Abū al-Sāʾib related to us, saying: Abū Muʿāwiya related to us, on the authority of Ismāʿīl ibn Sumayʿ, on the authority of Abū Razīn: innahā la-iḥdā al-kubar , he said: Hell (jahannam).
Yūnus related to me, saying: Ibn Wahb informed us, saying: Ibn Zayd said concerning His word: innahā la-iḥdā al-kubar , he said: this Fire.
Ibn ʿAbd al-Aʿlā related to us, saying: Ibn Thawr related to us, on the authority of Maʿmar, on the authority of Qatāda: innahā la-iḥdā al-kubar , he said: it is the Fire.
It was related to me on the authority of al-Ḥusayn, saying: I heard Abū Muʿādh say: ʿUbayd related to us, saying: I heard al-Ḍaḥḥāk say concerning His word: innahā la-iḥdā al-kubar , he means: Hell (jahannam).
Muḥammad ibn Saʿd related to me, saying: my father related to me, saying: my uncle related to me, saying: my father related to me, on the authority of his father, on the authority of Ibn ʿAbbās: innahā la-iḥdā al-kubar , he means Hell (jahannam).
And His word: nadhīran lil-bashar ("a warning to mankind"). He, exalted is His mention, says: verily, the Fire is one of the very greatest, a warning to the children of Adam.
