His statement: إِنْ هَذَا إِلا قَوْلُ الْبَشَرِ ("This is nothing but the word of a mortal"). The Exalted — praised be His mention — here informs about what al-Walīd said concerning the Qurʾān: إِنْ هَذَا إِلا قَوْلُ الْبَشَرِ ("This is nothing but the word of a mortal"), that is to say: this which Muḥammad ﷺ recites is nothing other than the word of a human being. He says: it is nothing but the speech of a son of Adam, and it is not the speech of Allah.
