wa-ṭaʿāman dhā ghuṣṣatin ("and food that sticks in the throat"). He says: and food on which the one who eats it chokes, so that it neither goes down his throat nor comes back out.
As Isḥāq ibn Wahb and Ibn Sinān al-Qazzāz related to me; they both said: Abū ʿĀṣim related to us; he said: Shabīb ibn Bishr related to us, on the authority of ʿIkrimah, on the authority of Ibn ʿAbbās, concerning His saying: wa-ṭaʿāman dhā ghuṣṣatin. He said: thorns that grip the throat, so that it neither goes down nor comes out.
Muḥammad ibn ʿAmr related to me; he said: Abū ʿĀṣim related to us; he said: ʿĪsā related to us; and al-Ḥārith related to me; he said: al-Ḥasan related to us; he said: Warqāʾ related to us — both on the authority of Ibn Abī Najīḥ, on the authority of Mujāhid, concerning His saying: wa-ṭaʿāman dhā ghuṣṣatin. He said: the tree of al-Zaqqūm.
His saying: wa-ʿadhāban alīman ("and a painful punishment"). He says: and an agonizing, tormenting punishment (ʿadhāb).
Abū Kurayb related to me; he said: Wakīʿ related to us, on the authority of Ḥamzah al-Zayyāt, on the authority of Ḥumrān ibn Aʿyan: "that the Prophet ﷺ recited: inna ladaynā ankālan wa-jaḥīman • wa-ṭaʿāman dhā ghuṣṣatin ('Verily, with Us are fetters and a blazing Fire, and food that sticks in the throat'), and he ﷺ fell down unconscious."
