Tafseer of The Jinn · Al-Jinn · 72:8
And we have sought [to reach] the heaven but found it filled with powerful guards and burning flames.

His statement: wa-annā lamasnā l-samāʾa ("And that we sought to touch the heaven"). The Exalted, the Mighty and Majestic, says, reporting the statement of that group: and that we sought out the heaven and desired it, fa-wajadnāhā muliʾat ("and we found it filled"). He says: and we found it filled ḥarasan shadīdan ("with stern guards"), by which guardians are meant, wa-shuhuban ("and flaming stars"), which is the plural of shihāb, namely the stars with which the devils were pelted.
And in the same sense as what we have said about this, the scholars of interpretation (taʾwīl) have spoken.
* Mention of who said that:
Ibn Ḥumayd related to us; he said: Jarīr related to us, on the authority of Mughīrah, on the authority of Ziyād, on the authority of Saʿīd ibn Jubayr; he said: the jinn used to eavesdrop, but when they were pelted, they said: "Verily, this that has occurred in the heaven is something that has occurred on the earth." He said: so they set out searching, until they saw the Prophet ﷺ, as he was coming from the market of ʿUkāẓ and performing the dawn prayer (al-fajr) with his companions. Then they went to their people as warners.
