And they had thought, as you thought, that Allah would never send anyone [as a messenger].

The explanation of His word, the Exalted: And that they thought, as you also thought, that Allah would never raise up anyone.
He, exalted be His remembrance, says, reporting about what this band of jinn said: (And that they thought, as you also thought, that Allah would never raise up anyone). He means that the men among the jinn thought, as the men among mankind thought, that Allah would not raise up anyone as a messenger to His creation who would call them to His oneness.
And in accordance with what we have said about this, the people of interpretation (ahl al-taʾwīl) spoke.

Bishr related to us, saying: Yazīd related to us, saying: Saʿīd related to us, on the authority of al-Kalbī (And that they thought, as you also thought): the disbelieving jinn thought, as the disbelievers among mankind thought, that Allah would not raise up a messenger.
