Tafseer of The Jinn · Al-Jinn · 72:22

قُلْ إِنِّى لَن يُجِيرَنِى مِنَ ٱللَّهِ أَحَدٌۭ وَلَنْ أَجِدَ مِن دُونِهِۦ مُلْتَحَدًا

Say, "Indeed, there will never protect me from Allah anyone [if I should disobey], nor will I find in other than Him a refuge.

    His statement: qul innī lan yujīranī mina llāhi aḥadun ("Say: none can protect me against Allah") — none of His creatures, were He to will some harm upon me, and no helper would help me against Him.

    And it has been mentioned that this verse was revealed to the Prophet ﷺ because one of the jinn had said: "I will grant him protection."

    * Mention of who said that:

    Ibn ʿAbd al-Aʿlā related to us; he said: al-Muʿtamir ibn Sulaymān related to us, on the authority of his father; he said: Ḥaḍramī claimed that he was told that a jinn among the jinn, one of their nobles, with a following, said: "Muḥammad only wants us to grant him protection, and I will grant him protection." Then Allah revealed: qul innī lan yujīranī mina llāhi aḥadun.

    His statement: wa-lan ajida min dūnihi multaḥadan ("and I will not find besides Him any refuge"). He says: and I will not find besides Allah any place of refuge to which I may turn.

    As Mihrān related to us, on the authority of Sufyān: wa-lan ajida min dūnihi multaḥadan. He says: and I will not find besides Allah any place of refuge to which I may turn.

    Bishr related to us; he said: Yazīd related to us; he said: Saʿīd related to us, on the authority of Qatādah, concerning His statement: wa-lan ajida min dūnihi multaḥadan, that is to say: a place of refuge and a helper.

    Ibn ʿAbd al-Aʿlā related to us; he said: Ibn Thawr related to us, on the authority of Maʿmar, on the authority of Qatādah: multaḥadan. He said: a place of refuge.

    Ibn Ḥumayd related to us; he said: Mihrān related to us, on the authority of Sufyān: wa-lan ajida min dūnihi multaḥadan. He says: a helper.

    وقوله: (قُلْ إِنِّي لَنْ يُجِيرَنِي مِنَ اللَّهِ أَحَدٌ ) من خلقه إن أرادني أمرا، ولا ينصرني منه ناصر. وذُكر أن هذه الآية أُنـزلت على النبيّ صلى الله عليه وسلم؛ لأن بعض الجنّ قال: أنا أجيره. * ذكر من قال ذلك: حدثنا ابن عبد الأعلى، قال: ثنا المعتمر بن سليمان، عن أبيه، قال: زعم حضرميّ أنه ذكر له أن جنيا من الجنّ من أشرافهم ذا تَبَع، قال: إنما يريد محمد أن نجيره وأنا أجيره فأنـزل الله: (قُلْ إِنِّي لَنْ يُجِيرَنِي مِنَ اللَّهِ أَحَدٌ ). وقوله: (وَلَنْ أَجِدَ مِنْ دُونِهِ مُلْتَحَدًا ) يقول: ولن أجد من دون الله ملجئا ألجأ إليه. كما حدثنا مهران، عن سفيان (وَلَنْ أَجِدَ مِنْ دُونِهِ مُلْتَحَدًا ) يقول: ولن أجد من دون الله ملجئا ألجأ إليه. حدثنا بشر، قال: ثنا يزيد، قال: ثنا سعيد، عن قتادة، في قوله: (وَلَنْ أَجِدَ مِنْ دُونِهِ مُلْتَحَدًا ) : أي ملجئا ونصيرا. حدثنا ابن عبد الأعلى، قال: ثنا ابن ثور، عن معمر، عن قتادة (مُلْتَحَدًا ) قال: ملجئا. حدثنا ابن حميد، قال: ثنا مهران، عن سفيان (وَلَنْ أَجِدَ مِنْ دُونِهِ مُلْتَحَدًا ) يقول: ناصرا.
