Say, [O Muhammad], "I only invoke my Lord and do not associate with Him anyone."

The statement concerning the explanation of His word, the Exalted: Zeg: Ik roep slechts mijn Heer aan en ik ken Hem geen enkele deelgenoot toe
The reciters differed over the recitation of His statement: (Say: I only call upon my Lord). Most of the reciters of Medina and Basra, and some of those of al-Kūfa, recited it in the form of a report: "qāla" (he said), with an alif. Whoever recites it thus makes it a report from Allah about His Prophet Muḥammad, peace and blessings be upon him, that he said. Then the meaning of the statement is: and when the servant of Allah stood up to call upon Him, they pressed in upon him in dense throngs; he said to them: I only call upon my Lord, and I associate none whatsoever with Him. And some of the inhabitants of Medina and most of the reciters of al-Kūfa recited that in the form of a command from Allah, the Exalted and Mighty, to His Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him: Say, O Muḥammad, to the people who were about to throng in upon you in dense crowds: I only call upon my Lord and I associate none whatsoever with Him.
And the correct view concerning this is that they are two well-known recitations, so with whichever of the two the reciter recites, he is correct.
