That you may follow therein roads of passage.' "

His words: لِتَسْلُكُوا مِنْهَا سُبُلا فِجَاجًا ("that you may travel along its broad ways"). He says: that you may travel along its difficult, divergent ways. Al-fijāj is the plural of fajj, which is the road.
And in accordance with what we have said about this, the people of interpretation (ahl al-taʾwīl) have spoken.

ʿAlī related to me, saying: Abū Ṣāliḥ related to us, saying: Muʿāwiya related to me, on the authority of ʿAlī, on the authority of Ibn ʿAbbās, concerning His words: لِتَسْلُكُوا مِنْهَا سُبُلا فِجَاجًا ("that you may travel along its broad ways"), he says: divergent ways.
