Tafseer of The Ascending Stairways · Al-Ma'aarij · 70:42

فَذَرْهُمْ يَخُوضُوا۟ وَيَلْعَبُوا۟ حَتَّىٰ يُلَٰقُوا۟ يَوْمَهُمُ ٱلَّذِى يُوعَدُونَ

So leave them to converse vainly and amuse themselves until they meet their Day which they are promised -

    His word: ( So leave them to indulge in idle talk and play ) He says to His Prophet Muḥammad ﷺ: leave then these polytheists (mushrikīn), who come hastening in groups on the right and on the left, to indulge in idle talk amid their falsehood and to play in this worldly life, ( until they meet their Day which they have been promised ) He says: until they meet the punishment of the Day of Resurrection which they have been promised.

    وقوله: (فَذَرْهُمْ يَخُوضُوا وَيَلْعَبُوا ) يقول لنبيه محمد صلى الله عليه وسلم: فذر هؤلاء المشركين المهطعين عن اليمين وعن الشمال عزين، يخوضوا في باطلهم، ويلعبوا في هذه الدنيا، (حَتَّى يُلاقُوا يَوْمَهُمُ الَّذِي يُوعَدُونَ ) يقول: حتى يلاقوا عذاب يوم القيامة الذي يوعدونه.
