So what is [the matter] with those who disbelieve, hastening [from] before you, [O Muhammad],

Qatāda said concerning that what Bishr related to us, saying: Yazīd related to us, saying: Saʿīd related to us, on the authority of Qatāda, concerning His word: فَمَالِ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا قِبَلَكَ مُهْطِعِينَ ("What then is the matter with those who disbelieve, that they come hastening toward you, with their gaze fixed intently"), he says: hastening deliberately.
And Ibn Zayd said concerning that what Yūnus related to us, saying: Ibn Wahb informed us, saying: Ibn Zayd said concerning His word: فَمَالِ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا قِبَلَكَ مُهْطِعِينَ ("What then is the matter with those who disbelieve, that they come hastening toward you, with their gaze fixed intently"), he said: al-muhṭiʿ is the one who does not blink with the eyes. And one of the scholars of the language of the Arabs from Basra used to say: its meaning is: hurrying.
And concerning that it has been related on the authority of al-Ḥasan what Ibn Bashshār related to us, saying: Abū ʿĀmir related to us, saying: Qurra related to us, on the authority of al-Ḥasan, concerning His word: فَمَالِ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا قِبَلَكَ مُهْطِعِينَ ("What then is the matter with those who disbelieve, that they come hastening toward you, with their gaze fixed intently"), he said: rushing forward.
Ibn Bashshār related to us, saying: Ḥammād ibn Masʿada related to us, saying: Qurra related to us, on the authority of al-Ḥasan, the like of it.
