Tafseer of The Ascending Stairways · Al-Ma'aarij · 70:3
[It is] from Allah, owner of the ways of ascent.

His word: ( there is none who can avert it * from Allah, the Lord of the Ascending Stairways ) — the Exalted, whose remembrance is exalted, says: for the punishment (ʿadhāb) that befalls the unbelievers (kāfir), coming from Allah, there is none who can avert it from them.
And His word: ( the Lord of the Ascending Stairways ) means: the Lord of loftiness, the ranks, the favors, and the blessings.
And in accordance with what we have said concerning this, the exegetes spoke.

ʿAlī related to me, saying: Abū Ṣāliḥ related to us, saying: Muʿāwiya related to me, on the authority of ʿAlī, on the authority of Ibn ʿAbbās, concerning His word: ( the Lord of the Ascending Stairways ) he says: the loftiness and the favors.
Bishr related to us, saying: Yazīd related to us, saying: Saʿīd related to us, on the authority of Qatāda, ( from Allah, the Lord of the Ascending Stairways ): the Lord of the favors and the blessings.
Muḥammad ibn ʿAmr related to me, saying: Abū ʿĀṣim related to us, saying: ʿĪsā related to us; and al-Ḥārith related to me, saying: al-Ḥasan related to us, saying: Warqāʾ related to us, both on the authority of Ibn Abī Najīḥ, on the authority of Mujāhid, concerning Allah's word: ( from Allah, the Lord of the Ascending Stairways ) he said: the ascending stairways of the heaven.
Yūnus related to me, saying: Ibn Wahb informed us, saying: Ibn Zayd said concerning His word: ( the Lord of the Ascending Stairways ) he said: Allah is the Lord of the Ascending Stairways.
Ibn Ḥumayd related to us, saying: Mihrān related to us, on the authority of Sufyān, on the authority of al-Aʿmash, on the authority of a man, on the authority of Saʿīd ibn Jubayr, on the authority of Ibn ʿAbbās, ( the Lord of the Ascending Stairways ) he said: the Lord of the ranks.
