It invites he who turned his back [on truth] and went away [from obedience]

His statement: ( it calls him who turned away and turned his back ) — He says: the blazing flame (laẓā) calls to itself him who, in the life of this world, turned away from obedience to Allah, and turned his back on belief in His Book and His messengers.
And in accordance with what we have said concerning this, the exegetes spoke.

Bishr related to us, saying: Yazīd related to us, saying: Saʿīd related to us, on the authority of Qatāda, concerning His statement: ( it calls him who turned away and turned his back ) he said: from obedience to Allah, ( and turned his back ) he said: on the Book of Allah, and on His right.
Muḥammad ibn ʿAmr related to me, saying: Abū ʿĀṣim related to us, saying: ʿĪsā related to us; and al-Ḥārith related to me, saying: al-Ḥasan related to us, saying: Warqāʾ related to us, both on the authority of Ibn Abī Najīḥ, on the authority of Mujāhid, concerning His statement: ( it calls him who turned away and turned his back ) he said: from the truth.
Yūnus related to me, saying: Ibn Wahb informed us, saying: Ibn Zayd said concerning His statement: ( it calls him who turned away and turned his back ) he said: it has no power except over the abasement of him who has become a disbeliever (kufr), turned his back, and turned away from Allah. But as for him who believes in Allah and His messenger, over him it has no power.
