And those whose scales are light - they are the ones who will lose themselves for what injustice they were doing toward Our verses.

The explanation of His statement: وَمَنْ خَفَّتْ مَوَازِينُهُ فَأُولَئِكَ الَّذِينَ خَسِرُوا أَنْفُسَهُمْ بِمَا كَانُوا بِآيَاتِنَا يَظْلِمُونَ (7:9) ("And those whose scales are light, those are the ones who have caused loss to themselves, because they used to wrong Our signs.")
Abū Jaʿfar said: He, exalted is His praise, says: and those whose scales of good deeds are light, so that they do not weigh heavily through his confession of the oneness of Allah, the belief in Him and in His messenger, and the following of His command and prohibition, those are the ones who have harmed themselves in their share of the abundant reward of Allah and His honor (38). = بما كانوا بآياتنا يظلمون ("because they used to wrong Our signs"), He says: because they denied the proofs of Allah and His indications, so that they did not acknowledge their correctness and were not convinced of their truth (39), as in the following:
14337 - Ibn Wakīʿ related to us, saying: Jarīr related to us, on the authority of al-Aʿmash, on the authority of Mujāhid concerning ومن خفت موازينه ("and those whose scales are light"); he said: his good deeds.

And it is said: "fa-ulāʾika" ("those") and "man" ("who") are stated in singular wording, because their meaning is plural. And if it had come in the singular, that would have been correct and eloquent (40).
