The explanation of His word: وَكَذَلِكَ نُفَصِّلُ الآيَاتِ وَلَعَلَّهُمْ يَرْجِعُونَ (And thus do We expound the signs, that they may perchance return) (7:174).
Abū Jaʿfar said: The Exalted, whose remembrance is exalted, says: And just as We, O Muhammad (the Prophet ﷺ), have expounded for your people the signs (āyāt) of this surah, and have made clear therein what We did to the former communities that preceded your people, and how We brought down upon them the chastisements on account of their disbelief and on account of the fact that they assigned to others besides Me partners in My worship—so too do We expound other signs and make them clear for your people, that they may restrain themselves and desist, and that they may return penitently to obedience to Me and turn away from their shirk (the assigning of partners to Allah) and their disbelief (kufr), so that they return to faith and to the acknowledgment of My oneness, devoting obedience exclusively to Me, and abandoning the worship of all besides Me.
