وَمَا تَنقِمُ مِنَّآ إِلَّآ أَنْ ءَامَنَّا بِـَٔايَٰتِ رَبِّنَا لَمَّا جَآءَتْنَا ۚ رَبَّنَآ أَفْرِغْ عَلَيْنَا صَبْرًۭا وَتَوَفَّنَا مُسْلِمِينَ

And you do not resent us except because we believed in the signs of our Lord when they came to us. Our Lord, pour upon us patience and let us die as Muslims [in submission to You]."

    And His words: "And you take no vengeance on us except that we have believed in the signs of our Lord," he says: You condemn nothing in us, O Pharaoh, and you have nothing to hold against us, except because we have believed — that is to say: we have held to be true — "the signs of our Lord," he says: the proofs of our Lord, His indications and His arguments, the like of which neither you nor anyone else besides Allah, to whom belongs sovereignty over the heavens and the earth, is able to bring forth. Then they took refuge in Allah by asking Him for steadfastness during the punishment of Pharaoh, and for the taking of their souls in the state of islām (submission), so that they said: (Our Lord, pour out upon us abundant steadfastness), by which they mean by their saying "pour out abundantly": send down upon us a perseverance that restrains us from disbelief in You during Pharaoh's punishment of us = (and take us away as those who have submitted (Muslims)), he says: and take us to Yourself in the state of islām, the religion of Your bosom-friend (khalīl) Ibrāhīm, peace be upon him, not in the state of ascribing partners to You (shirk).

    14957 — Mūsā ibn Hārūn related to me, he said: ʿAmr ibn Ḥammād related to us, he said: Asbāṭ related to us, on the authority of al-Suddī: لأُقَطِّعَنَّ أَيْدِيَكُمْ وَأَرْجُلَكُمْ مِنْ خِلافٍ ("I shall surely cut off your hands and your feet on opposite sides"), so he killed them and crucified them, as ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿAbbās said, when they said: (Our Lord, pour out upon us abundant steadfastness and take us away as those who have submitted). He said: At the beginning of the day they were sorcerers, and at the end of the day they were martyrs (shuhadāʾ).

    14958 — Ibn Wakīʿ related to us, he said: My father related to us, on the authority of Isrāʾīl, on the authority of ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz ibn Rufayʿ, on the authority of ʿUbayd ibn ʿUmayr, he said: The sorcerers were at the beginning of the day sorcerers, and at the end of the day martyrs.

    14959 — Bishr ibn Muʿādh related to us, he said: Yazīd related to us, he said: Saʿīd related to us, on the authority of Qatāda, concerning His words: وَأُلْقِيَ السَّحَرَةُ سَاجِدِينَ ("And the sorcerers were cast down, prostrating"), he said: It was related to us that they were at the beginning of the day sorcerers, and at the end of it martyrs.

    14960 — Al-Qāsim related to us, he said: Al-Ḥusayn related to us, he said: Ḥajjāj related to me, on the authority of Ibn Jurayj, on the authority of Mujāhid: (Our Lord, pour out upon us abundant steadfastness and take us away as those who have submitted), he said: They were at the beginning of the day sorcerers, and at the end of it martyrs.

    وقوله: " وما تنقم منا إلا أن آمنا بآيات ربنا "، يقول: ما تنكر منا، يا فرعون، وما تجد علينا, إلا من أجل أن آمنا، أي = صدقنا (9) " بآيات ربنا ", يقول: بحجج ربّنا وأعلامه وأدلته التي لا يقدر على مثلها أنت ولا أحد، سوى الله, الذي له ملك السموات والأرض. (10) . ثم فزعوا إلى الله بمسألته الصبرَ على عذاب فرعون, وقبض أرواحهم على الإسلام فقالوا: (ربنا أفرغ علينا صبرًا)، يعنون بقولهم: " أفرغ "، أنـزل علينا حَبْسًا يحبسنا عن الكفر بك، (11) عند تعذيب فرعون إيانا=(وتوفنا مسلمين)، يقول: واقبضنا إليك على الإسلام دين خليلك إبراهيم صلى الله عليه وسلم, لا على الشرك بك (12) . 14957 - فحدثني موسى بن هارون قال، حدثنا عمرو بن حماد قال، حدثنا أسباط، عن السدي: لأُقَطِّعَنَّ أَيْدِيَكُمْ وَأَرْجُلَكُمْ مِنْ خِلافٍ ، فقتلهم وصلبهم, كما قال عبد الله بن عباس، حين قالوا: (ربنا أفرغ علينا صبرًا وتوفّنا مسلمين). قال: كانوا في أول النهار سحرة, وفى آخر النهار شهداء. 14958 - حدثنا ابن وكيع قال، حدثنا أبي, عن إسرائيل, عن عبد العزيز بن رفيع, عن عبيد بن عمير قال: كانت السحرة أول النهار سحرة, وآخر النهار شهداء. 14959 - حدثنا بشر بن معاذ قال، حدثنا يزيد قال، حدثنا سعيد, عن قتادة قوله: وَأُلْقِيَ السَّحَرَةُ سَاجِدِينَ ، قال: ذكر لنا أنهم كانوا في أوّل النهار سحرة, وآخره شهداء. 14960 - حدثنا القاسم قال، حدثنا الحسين قال، حدثني حجاج, عن ابن جريج, عن مجاهد: (ربنا أفرغ علينا صبرًا وتوفنا مسلمين)، قال: كانوا أوّل النهار سحرة , وآخره شهداء. ------------------ الهوامش : (9) انظر تفسير (( نقم )) فيما سلف 10 : 433 .
