And Pharaoh and his people were overcome right there and became debased.

The explanation of His word: فَغُلِبُوا هُنَالِكَ وَانْقَلَبُوا صَاغِرِينَ (119) ("So they were defeated there and turned back humiliated." (7:119))
Abū Jaʿfar said: He, exalted is His mention, says: Then Mūsā overcame Firʿawn and his hosts — "hunālika," at that moment — "wa-nqalabū ṣāghirīn," he says: and they turned back from that place of theirs in lowliness, overpowered. From this one says: "ṣaghira ar-rajul yaṣghar ṣagharan wa-ṣughran wa-ṣaghāran" (the man became lowly / humiliated, with the conjugations for lowliness and humiliation).
