هَلَكَ عَنِّي سُلْطَانِيَهْ ("My authority has perished from me"). He says: my proofs have departed from me and gone astray, so that I have no proof by which I might defend myself.
And in the spirit of what we have said concerning this, the scholars of exegesis spoke.
* Mention of who said that:
Muḥammad ibn Saʿd related to me, saying: my father related to me, saying: my uncle related to me, saying: my father related to me, on the authority of his father, on the authority of Ibn ʿAbbās, concerning هَلَكَ عَنِّي سُلْطَانِيَهْ , he says: every clear proof has gone astray from me, so that it availed me nothing.
ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn al-Aswad al-Ṭufāwī related to me, saying: Muḥammad ibn Rabīʿa related to us, on the authority of al-Naḍr ibn ʿArabī, saying: I heard ʿIkrima say: هَلَكَ عَنِّي سُلْطَانِيَهْ , he said: my proof.
Muḥammad ibn ʿAmr related to me, saying: Abū ʿĀṣim related to us, saying: ʿĪsā related to us; and al-Ḥārith related to me, saying: al-Ḥasan related to us, saying: Warqāʾ related to us — both of them — on the authority of Ibn Abī Najīḥ, on the authority of Mujāhid, concerning His saying: هلك عني سلطانيه , he said: my proof.
Bishr related to us, saying: Yazīd related to us, saying: Saʿīd related to us, on the authority of Qatāda, concerning His saying: هَلَكَ عَنِّي سُلْطَانِيَهْ : indeed, by Allah, not everyone who enters the Fire was a ruler of a village which he taxed; but Allah created them and gave them authority over their like, and commanded them to obey Allah and forbade them to disobey Allah.
It has been related to me on the authority of al-Ḥusayn, saying: I heard Abū Muʿādh say: ʿUbayd informed us, saying: I heard al-Ḍaḥḥāk say, concerning His saying: هَلَكَ عَنِّي سُلْطَانِيَهْ , he says: my proof has gone astray from me.
And others said: by "al-sulṭān" in this place the kingship (al-mulk) is meant.
* Mention of who said that:
Yūnus related to me, saying: Ibn Wahb informed us, saying: Ibn Zayd said, concerning His saying: هَلَكَ عَنِّي سُلْطَانِيَهْ , he said: the authority of the world.
