I wish my death had been the decisive one.

And His statement: يَا لَيْتَهَا كَانَتِ الْقَاضِيَةَ ("O, would that it had been the end") (69:27). He says: O, would that the death I died in the worldly life had been the completion of everything that comes after it, and that after it there had been no life and no resurrection. And al-qaḍā- (the carrying-out) means: the completion.
And it has been said: he wished for the death that would be carried out upon him, so that his soul would depart from it.
And just as we have said concerning this, so too have the exegetes (ahl al-ta-wīl) spoken.

Bishr related to us, saying: Yazīd related to us, saying: Saʿīd related to us, on the authority of Qatāda, concerning His statement: يَا لَيْتَهَا كَانَتِ الْقَاضِيَةَ ("O, would that it had been the end"): he wished for death, and there was nothing in the worldly life more hateful to him than death.
Yūnus related to me, saying: Ibn Wahb informed us, saying: Ibn Zayd said concerning His statement: يَا لَيْتَهَا كَانَتِ الْقَاضِيَةَ ("O, would that it had been the end"): death.
