  1. Full Dutch translation of Tabari's text

Muḥammad ibn Saʿd related to me, saying: my father related to me, saying: my uncle related to me, saying: my father related to me, on the authority of his father, on the authority of Ibn ʿAbbās, concerning His word: ( وَانْشَقَّتِ السَّمَاءُ فَهِيَ يَوْمَئِذٍ وَاهِيَةٌ ) ("and the heaven splits open, for on that day it is weak"): "He means: rent asunder and weakened."

( وَالْمَلَكُ عَلَى أَرْجَائِهَا ) ("and the angels are at its borders"). He, exalted is His mention, says: and the angels are at the extremities and the edges of the heaven when it is rent.

And similar to what we have said concerning this, the exegetes have stated.

    * Mention of who said that:

Muḥammad ibn Saʿd related to me, saying: my father related to me, saying: my uncle related to me, saying: my father related to me, on the authority of his father, on the authority of Ibn ʿAbbās, concerning His word: ( وَالْمَلَكُ عَلَى أَرْجَائِهَا ), he says: and the angels are at the edges of the heaven when it is rent. And one says: "ʿalā shiqqa," for everything from which something splits open.
