The Inevitable Reality -

The statement concerning the explanation of His saying, the Exalted: الْحَاقَّةُ (1) ("Al-Ḥāqqa") (69:1).
He — exalted be His mention — says: the Hour, الْحَاقَّةُ ("Al-Ḥāqqa"), upon which matters are realized and upon which the requital for deeds is brought to completion, مَا الْحَاقَّةُ ("What is Al-Ḥāqqa?"). He says: what is the Hour that is realized?
And it is reported of the Arabs that they say: "lammā ʿarafa al-ḥāqqata matā" ("when he recognized the realization, when"), and "al-ḥiqqa matā," and with the kasra [on the hā-], in the same meaning in the three linguistic forms. And they say: "wa-qad ḥaqqa ʿalayhi al-shay-" ("and the matter has been realized against him") when it becomes obligatory; the [verb] is "yaḥiqqu ḥuqūqan."
And the first al-ḥāqqa is in the nominative (marfūʿa) on account of the second, because the second takes the place of the pronominal reference (al-kināya) to it; as though He marveled at it and said: الحاقة ما هي ("Al-Ḥāqqa, what is it?"), as one says: "Zayd, what is Zayd?" And the second al-ḥāqqa is in the nominative on account of [the particle] "mā," and "mā" has the meaning of "ayy" (which), and "mā" is in the nominative on account of the second al-ḥāqqa. Something similar to this occurs in the Qurʾān: وَأَصْحَابُ الْيَمِينِ مَا أَصْحَابُ الْيَمِينِ ("And the people of the right hand, what are the people of the right hand?") and الْقَارِعَةُ * مَا الْقَارِعَةُ ("Al-Qāriʿa. What is Al-Qāriʿa?"). Thus "mā" is in the position of the nominative on account of the second al-qāriʿa, and the first [is in the nominative] on account of the entire sentence that follows it.
And just as we have said this concerning His saying الْحَاقَّةُ ("Al-Ḥāqqa"), so also have the exegetes (ahl al-taʾwīl) spoken.

ʿAlī related to me, saying: Abū Ṣāliḥ related to us, saying: Muʿāwiya related to me, on the authority of ʿAlī, on the authority of Ibn ʿAbbās, concerning His saying: الْحَاقَّةُ ("Al-Ḥāqqa"). He said: it is among the names of the Day of Resurrection; Allah has made it great and warned His servants of it.
Abū Kurayb related to us, saying: Ibn Yamān related to us, on the authority of Sharīk, on the authority of Jābir, on the authority of ʿIkrima, who said: الْحَاقَّةُ ("Al-Ḥāqqa") is the Resurrection.
Bishr related to us, saying: Yazīd related to us, saying: Saʿīd related to us, on the authority of Qatāda, concerning His saying: الْحَاقَّةُ ("Al-Ḥāqqa"). He means: the Hour that has realized for every person who acts his deed.
Ibn ʿAbd al-Aʿlā related to me, saying: Ibn Thawr related to us, on the authority of Maʿmar, on the authority of Qatāda: الْحَاقَّةُ ("Al-Ḥāqqa"). He said: it has realized for every people their deeds.
It was related to me on the authority of al-Ḥusayn, who said: I heard Abū Muʿādh say: ʿUbayd related to us, saying: I heard al-Ḍaḥḥāk say concerning His saying: الْحَاقَّةُ ("Al-Ḥāqqa"). He means the Resurrection.
