So leave Me, [O Muhammad], with [the matter of] whoever denies the Qur'an. We will progressively lead them [to punishment] from where they do not know.

The statement concerning the explanation of His word, the Exalted: (44) ("So leave Me with whoever denies this discourse; We will lead them on by degrees from where they do not know (44)").

The Exalted, whose mention is exalted, says to His prophet Muḥammad — may Allah bless him and grant him peace: Leave the affair of these deniers of the Qurʾān to Me, O Muḥammad. This is like the saying of one person to another, when he threatens a man: "leave me with him," "leave me alone with him," with the meaning: I will take charge of inflicting harm upon him. And "man" (man) in His word: وَمَنْ يُكَذِّبُ بِهَذَا الْحَدِيثِ ("whoever denies this discourse") is in the accusative position (naṣb), because the meaning of the statement is what I have mentioned; and it is comparable to their saying: "had you been left to yourself and your own opinion, you would not have succeeded." The Arabs put "wa-raʾyaka" ("and your opinion") in the accusative, because the meaning of the statement is: "had you been entrusted to your own opinion, you would not have succeeded."

And His word: سَنَسْتَدْرِجُهُمْ مِنْ حَيْثُ لا يَعْلَمُونَ ("We will lead them on by degrees from where they do not know"). He — exalted is His praise — says: We will overtake them by stratagem from where they do not know, and that is by His granting them enjoyment of the pleasures of the worldly life, until they suppose that it has been given to them as something good for them in the sight of Allah, so that they persist in their transgression; then He seizes them suddenly, while they do not perceive it.
