أَنْ لا يَدْخُلَنَّهَا الْيَوْمَ عَلَيْكُمْ مِسْكِينٌ ("That no poor person shall enter it [the garden] upon you today") (68:24).
As Ibn ʿAbd al-Aʿlā related to us, saying: Ibn Thawr related to us, on the authority of Maʿmar, on the authority of Qatāda, who said: When their father had died, they set out toward it in the morning and said: لا يَدْخُلَنَّهَا الْيَوْمَ عَلَيْكُمْ مِسْكِينٌ ("No poor person shall enter it upon you today").
The exegetes (ahl al-taʾwīl) differed concerning the meaning of al-ḥard in this place. Some of them said: its meaning is: with a firm resolve within themselves and a determination.
* Mention of those who said that:
ʿAlī related to me, saying: Abū Ṣāliḥ related to us, saying: Muʿāwiya related to me, on the authority of ʿAlī, on the authority of Ibn ʿAbbās,
