Tafseer of Divorce · At-Talaaq · 65:10
Allah has prepared for them a severe punishment; so fear Allah, O you of understanding who have believed. Allah has sent down to you the Qur'an.
Important: The Arabic source text is always authoritative. This translation is a study aid and has not been verified by scholars — do not use it as a basis for religious proof or for deriving rulings (ahkam). When in doubt, always consult the Arabic text and a qualified scholar.
The Exalted, whose remembrance is exalted, says: Allah has prepared for that people who arrogantly opposed the command of their Lord and His messengers a severe punishment (ʿadhāb), and that is the punishment of the Fire which He has prepared for them on the Day of Resurrection. Vreest dus Allah, o lieden van verstand — the Exalted, whose remembrance is exalted, says: so fear Allah and guard yourselves against His displeasure by fulfilling His ordinances and avoiding acts of disobedience to Him, O people of insight.
As Muḥammad related to us, saying: Aḥmad related to us, saying: Asbāṭ related to us, on the authority of al-Suddī, concerning His word: Vreest dus Allah, o lieden van verstand. He said: O people of insight.
And His word: die geloven means: those who have held Allah and His messengers to be true.
And His word: Allah heeft inderdaad tot jullie een vermaning neergezonden * een Boodschapper. The scholars of exegesis differed concerning what is meant by the remembrance (al-dhikr) and the Messenger in this place. Some of them said: the remembrance is the Qurʾān, and the Messenger is Muḥammad (ṣ).
* Mention of who said that:
Muḥammad related to us, saying: Aḥmad related to us, saying: Asbāṭ related to us, on the authority of al-Suddī, concerning His word: Allah heeft inderdaad tot jullie een vermaning neergezonden * een Boodschapper. He said: The remembrance: the Qurʾān, and the Messenger: Muḥammad (ṣ).
Yūnus related to me, saying: Ibn Wahb informed us, saying: Ibn Zayd said, concerning the word of Allah, mighty and exalted is He: Allah heeft inderdaad tot jullie een vermaning neergezonden. He said: The Qurʾān is a spirit from Allah. And he recited: En zo hebben Wij aan jou een geest van Ons gebod geopenbaard to the end of the verse. And he recited: Allah heeft inderdaad tot jullie een vermaning neergezonden * een Boodschapper. He said: the Qurʾān. And he recited: Voorwaar, degenen die ongelovig zijn aan de vermaning toen die tot hen kwam. He said: in the Qurʾān. And he recited: Voorwaar, Wij zijn het die de vermaning hebben neergezonden. He said: the Qurʾān. He said: and that is the remembrance, and that is the spirit.
And others said: the remembrance is the Messenger.
The correct ruling concerning this is that the Messenger is a specification (clarifying rendering) of the remembrance. This [word "Messenger"] stands in the naṣb (accusative) because it is referred back to it by way of clarification and specification of it.
The explanation of the words is then: Allah has indeed sent down to you, O people of insight, a remembrance from Allah by which He admonishes you and points you to your share in belief in Allah and acting according to obedience to Him — a Messenger who recites to you the signs of Allah which He has sent down to him, duidelijk makend — that is to say: making clear to whoever hears them and reflects upon them that they come from Allah.
