The Exalted, whose praise is exalted, says to His Prophet Muḥammad ﷺ: (Say) O Muḥammad, to the Jews: (Indeed, the death from which you flee) and which you abhor, and which you refuse to desire, (it shall surely meet you) and descend upon you (then you shall be brought back to the Knower of the unseen and the witnessed) — then your Lord shall, after your death, bring you back to the Knower of the unseen and the witnessed, the Knower of the unseen of the heavens and the earth. And the witnessed means: that which is witnessed and appears visibly to the eye, and which is not hidden from the gazes of the beholders.

Ibn ʿAbd al-Aʿlā related to us, saying: Ibn Thawr related to us, on the authority of Maʿmar, who said: Qatāda recited: (then you shall be brought back to the Knower of the unseen and the witnessed) and he said: Indeed, Allah has humbled the son of Adam through death — I think he said nothing other than that He has exalted him. (and He shall inform you of what you used to do) he says: then He shall, at that moment, inform you of which deeds you performed in the worldly life, the evil of them and the good of them, for He encompasses them all. Then He shall requite you for them: the doer of good with his good deed, and the doer of evil with what is due to him.
