Tafseer of Friday · Al-Jumu'a · 62:6
Say, "O you who are Jews, if you claim that you are allies of Allah, excluding the [other] people, then wish for death, if you should be truthful."
Important: The Arabic source text is always authoritative. This translation is a study aid and has not been verified by scholars — do not use it as a basis for religious proof or for deriving rulings (ahkam). When in doubt, always consult the Arabic text and a qualified scholar.
The Exalted, whose mention is exalted, says to His prophet Muḥammad ﷺ: Say, O Muḥammad, to the Jews ( Say: O you who follow Judaism, if you claim that you are the protégés of Allah to the exclusion of other people ) besides you ( then wish for death, if you are truthful ) in your assertion that you are the protégés of Allah to the exclusion of other people. For Allah does not punish His protégés, but rather honors them and bestows favors upon them. And if you are right in what you say, then wish for death, so that you may be delivered from the cares of this world, its troubles, and its sorrows, and through death pass over to the refreshment of the gardens of Paradise and their bliss.
Yūnus related to me, saying: Ibn Wahb informed us, saying: Ibn Zayd said concerning His word: ( Say: O you who follow Judaism ) say: O you who have shown repentance — referring to the Jews. Mūsā said: ( Verily, we have turned to You ), that is to say: we have turned to You in repentance.
