The Exalted, whose praise is exalted, says: when the Friday prayer on Friday has been completed, then disperse throughout the land if you so wish; that is a dispensation from Allah to you in this matter.
In accordance with what we have said about this, the scholars of interpretation (ahl al-taʾwīl) also spoke.
* Mention of who said that:
Yaʿqūb ibn Ibrāhīm related to me, saying: Hushaym related to us, saying: Ḥuṣayn informed us, on the authority of Mujāhid, that he said: it is a dispensation — he means His word: فَإِذَا قُضِيَتِ الصَّلاةُ فَانْتَشِرُوا فِي الأرْضِ ("And when the prayer has been completed, then disperse throughout the land").
It was related to me on the authority of al-Ḥusayn, he said: I heard Abū Muʿādh say: ʿUbayd related to us, saying: I heard al-Ḍaḥḥāk say concerning His word: فَإِذَا قُضِيَتِ الصَّلاةُ فَانْتَشِرُوا فِي الأرْضِ ("And when the prayer has been completed, then disperse throughout the land"), he said: this is a permission from Allah; whoever wishes, goes out, and whoever wishes, remains seated.
Yūnus related to me, saying: Ibn Wahb informed us, saying: Ibn Zayd said: Allah permitted them, when they have finished the prayer: فَإِذَا قُضِيَتِ الصَّلاةُ فَانْتَشِرُوا فِي الأرْضِ وَابْتَغُوا مِنْ فَضْلِ اللَّهِ ("And when the prayer has been completed, then disperse throughout the land and seek the bounty of Allah") — I have permitted it to you.
And His word: وَابْتَغُوا مِنْ فَضْلِ اللَّهِ ("And seek the bounty of Allah"). Concerning the Prophet ﷺ, with regard to its interpretation, there has been related what follows:
Al-ʿAbbās ibn Abī Ṭālib related to me, saying: ʿAlī ibn al-Muʿāfā ibn Yaʿqūb al-Mawṣilī related to us, saying: Abū ʿĀmir al-Ṣāʾigh of Mosul related to us, on the authority of Abū Khalaf, on the authority of Anas, he said: the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said concerning His word: فَإِذَا قُضِيَتِ الصَّلاةُ فَانْتَشِرُوا فِي الأرْضِ وَابْتَغُوا مِنْ فَضْلِ اللَّهِ ("And when the prayer has been completed, then disperse throughout the land and seek the bounty of Allah"), he said: "It is not for pursuing worldly affairs, but to visit a sick person, to attend a funeral, and to visit a brother in Allah."
And it is possible that by His word: وَابْتَغُوا مِنْ فَضْلِ اللَّهِ ("And seek the bounty of Allah") is meant: and seek the bounty of Allah, in whose hand are the keys of His treasuries, for your worldly life and your Hereafter.
And His word: وَاذْكُرُوا اللَّهَ كَثِيرًا لَعَلَّكُمْ تُفْلِحُونَ ("And remember Allah much, that you may succeed") says: and remember Allah by praising Him and thanking Him for what He has granted you of the success in fulfilling His obligations, that you may succeed, so that you may attain your desires from your Lord and gain the eternal abode in His gardens.
