There has certainly been for you in them an excellent pattern for anyone whose hope is in Allah and the Last Day. And whoever turns away - then indeed, Allah is the Free of need, the Praiseworthy.

The explanation of His, the Exalted's, saying: لَقَدْ كَانَ لَكُمْ فِيهِمْ أُسْوَةٌ حَسَنَةٌ لِمَنْ كَانَ يَرْجُو اللَّهَ وَالْيَوْمَ الآخِرَ وَمَنْ يَتَوَلَّ فَإِنَّ اللَّهَ هُوَ الْغَنِيُّ الْحَمِيدُ (6) ("Indeed, in them you have a good example, for whoever hopes in Allah and the Last Day; and whoever turns away — then indeed Allah is the Self-Sufficient, the Praiseworthy" (60:6)).
And His saying: لَقَدْ كَانَ لَكُمْ فِيهِمْ أُسْوَةٌ حَسَنَةٌ ("Indeed, in them you have a good example"). He, exalted be His mention, says: indeed you have — O believers — a good example to follow in those whom He has mentioned: Ibrāhīm and those who were with him, namely the prophets — Allah's prayers be upon them — and the messengers. لِمَنْ كَانَ يَرْجُو اللَّهَ وَالْيَوْمَ الآخِرَ ("for whoever hopes in Allah and the Last Day") means: for whoever among you hopes for the meeting with Allah, and the reward of Allah, and salvation on the Last Day.
And His saying: وَمَنْ يَتَوَلَّ فَإِنَّ اللَّهَ هُوَ الْغَنِيُّ الْحَمِيدُ ("and whoever turns away — then indeed Allah is the Self-Sufficient, the Praiseworthy"). He, exalted be His mention, says: and whoever turns away from that which Allah has commanded him and urged him to, whether among you or other than you, and shuns it and arrogantly turns away from it, and takes the enemies of Allah as allies and shows them affection — then Allah is indeed self-sufficient, having no need of his belief in Him and his obedience to Him, and having no need of His entire creation, the Praiseworthy among those who know His blessings and His favors toward them.
