Never will your relatives or your children benefit you; the Day of Resurrection He will judge between you. And Allah, of what you do, is Seeing.

His statement: لَنْ تَنْفَعَكُمْ أَرْحَامُكُمْ وَلا أَوْلادُكُمْ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ ("Your blood-relations and your children will not benefit you on the Day of Resurrection") — the Exalted, whose remembrance is exalted, says: do not let your blood-relations, your kinship ties, and your children incite you to disbelief in Allah and to taking His enemies as allies to whom you show affection, for your blood-relations and your children will not benefit you with Allah on the Day of Resurrection, such that they could on that day avert from you the punishment of Allah, if you were disobedient to Him in this worldly life and disbelieving in Him.

His statement: يَفْصِلُ بَيْنَكُمْ ("He will separate between you") — the Exalted, whose praise is exalted, says: your Lord will, O believers, on the Day of Resurrection separate between you, in that He admits the people of obedience to Him into Paradise and the people of disobedience to Him and disbelief in Him into the Fire.

The Qurʾān reciters differ over the reading of this. Most of the reciters of Medina, Mecca, and Basra read it يُفْصَلُ بَيْنَكُم with a ḍamma on the yāʾ, a light (undoubled) ṣād with a fatḥa on it, in the passive form in which the agent is not named.

And most of the reciters of Kufa, with the exception of ʿĀṣim, read it with a ḍamma on the yāʾ, a doubled ṣād with a kasra, in the meaning: Allah will separate between you, O people. And ʿĀṣim read it with a fatḥa on the yāʾ, a light ṣād with a kasra, in the meaning: Allah will separate between you. And some of the reciters of Syria read يُفَصلُ with a ḍamma on the yāʾ, a fatḥa on the ṣād with its doubling, in the passive form in which the agent is not named.

These readings are close to one another in meaning and are correct in their inflection; with whichever of them the reciter recites, he is correct.

His statement: وَاللَّهُ بِمَا تَعْمَلُونَ بَصِيرٌ ("And Allah is All-Seeing of what you do") — the Exalted, whose praise is exalted, says: and Allah has knowledge and insight into your deeds, O people; nothing of it is hidden from Him, He encompasses the whole of it, and He will requite you for it: if it was good, then with good, and if it was evil, then with evil. So fear Allah within your souls and be on your guard against Him.
