Tafseer of She that is to be examined · Al-Mumtahana · 60:2
If they gain dominance over you, they would be to you as enemies and extend against you their hands and their tongues with evil, and they wish you would disbelieve.

The explanation of His, the Exalted, word: إِنْ يَثْقَفُوكُمْ يَكُونُوا لَكُمْ أَعْدَاءً وَيَبْسُطُوا إِلَيْكُمْ أَيْدِيَهُمْ وَأَلْسِنَتَهُمْ بِالسُّوءِ وَوَدُّوا لَوْ تَكْفُرُونَ (2) ("If they gain mastery over you, they will be enemies to you and will stretch out their hands and their tongues against you with evil, and they wish that you would disbelieve" (60:2)).
He, exalted be His mention, says: if these people, to whom you — O believers — show affection in secret, gain mastery over you, they will be to you for war and enemies. وَيَبْسُطُوا إِلَيْكُمْ أَيْدِيَهُمْ ("and stretch out their hands against you") in fighting, وَأَلْسِنَتَهُمْ بِالسُّوءِ ("and their tongues with evil").
And His word: وَوَدُّوا لَوْ تَكْفُرُونَ ("and they wish that you would disbelieve") means: and they desire for you that you would disbelieve in your Lord, so that you would then be like them in what they are upon.
