Tafseer of The Cattle · Al-An'aam · 6:30
If you could but see when they will be made to stand before their Lord. He will say, "Is this not the truth?" They will say, "Yes, by our Lord." He will [then] say, "So taste the punishment because you used to disbelieve."

The explanation of His word: وَلَوْ تَرَى إِذْ وُقِفُوا عَلَى رَبِّهِمْ قَالَ أَلَيْسَ هَذَا بِالْحَقِّ قَالُوا بَلَى وَرَبِّنَا قَالَ فَذُوقُوا الْعَذَابَ بِمَا كُنْتُمْ تَكْفُرُونَ (6:30) (And if you could but see when they are made to stand before their Lord! He will say: "Is this not the truth?" They will say: "Yes indeed, by our Lord!" He will say: "Then taste the punishment for your disbelief.")
Abū Jaʿfar said: The Exalted, whose praise is proclaimed, says: "If you could but see" — O Muḥammad ﷺ — these speakers who say: "There is nothing but our worldly life and we shall not be resurrected," = "when they are made to stand," that is, on the Day of Resurrection, meaning: detained, = "before their Lord," that is: before the judgment of Allah and His decree concerning them, = "He will say: Is this not the truth?" He says: then it will be said to them: is this awakening and rising again after death, which you denied in the worldly life, not truly the truth? Whereupon they will answer and say: "Yes indeed," by Allah, it is most certainly the truth = "He will say: Then taste the punishment." He says: then Allah, the Exalted whose praise is proclaimed, will say to them: then taste the punishment which you denied in the worldly life = "for your disbelief." He says: for your denial of it and your rejection of it, which was on your part in the worldly life.
